Living in Aster, Edmonton
New Homes in The Meadows
Aster is one of the newest neighbourhoods in The Meadows area, on Edmonton's southeast edge. It sits east of 17 Street and south of 23 Avenue, with Anthony Henday Drive along its east and south sides.
Its neighbourhood plan was adopted in 2016, and it's still building out. Like the rest of The Meadows, it's named for a plant native to Alberta.
Homes and Prices in Aster

Schools, Parks, Shopping and Commute
Schools. Elder Dr. Francis Whiskeyjack School, a public high school, is on 17 Street right beside Aster. Check the Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools locators for the designated schools for the address you're considering.
Parks and recreation. The Meadows Community Recreation Centre and Library is close by, with an aquatic centre, fitness centre, gymnasium, ice arenas and outdoor sports fields.
Shopping. Tamarack Common is across 17 Street, and The Meadows has larger shopping areas with big-box stores and groceries a short drive away.
Commute. Anthony Henday Drive wraps around the east and south edges, and 17 Street and 23 Avenue are the main roads. Drive times downtown vary a lot with traffic, so test your commute at rush hour. Check ETS trip planning for current transit routes.
Is Aster a Good Fit for You?
Aster tends to work well if you want:
- A new home with builder warranty
- A high school, recreation centre and library close by
- Major shopping a short drive away
- Quick Henday access
It may not be the right fit if you want mature trees, an established street or a short commute to the west end.
What I'd Watch Out For
- Ongoing construction. Aster is still building out, so expect construction traffic, noise and road work nearby.
- Busy roads. Homes near 17 Street, 23 Avenue or the Henday can hear more traffic.
- Builder differences. Compare warranties, finishing standards and reviews, and get an inspection even on a new home.
- Planned amenities. Commercial space and other amenities shown on a plan may not be open yet. Buy for what exists today.
