Living in Cameron Heights, Edmonton
Ravine Living with Quick Henday Access
Cameron Heights is a small, quiet community in west Edmonton, tucked between two ravines and the North Saskatchewan River valley. It's one of the few places in the city where you can live minutes from Anthony Henday Drive and still walk to the river valley trails.
The neighbourhood began development in the early 2000s, so most homes are relatively modern. It's bordered by Wedgewood Ravine to the north and west, the river valley to the east, and Anthony Henday Drive to the south. With only one main road in and out, Cameron Heights Drive, the streets see very little through traffic.
The community is named after John Cameron, an early Edmonton merchant, school board member and town alderman.
Homes and Prices in Cameron Heights
Cameron Heights is mostly detached homes, from family two-storeys to large custom estate homes, many on ravine-backing or walkout lots. Vacant lots for custom builds come up from time to time.
Cameron Heights is one of the higher-priced communities in west Edmonton. The biggest factors are lot position and home type: a ravine-backing custom walkout and an interior-lot two-storey can be very far apart, even on the same street. That's why a single "average price" for the area can be misleading.

Schools, Parks, Shopping and Commute
Schools. There is currently no school inside Cameron Heights, so students attend schools in nearby communities. School designations can change, so check Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools for the address you're considering.
Parks and trails. Cameron Heights Park sits at the centre of the community, with a playground and sports fields. The neighbourhood is surrounded by Wedgewood Ravine, Cameron Ravine and the river valley, with walking and biking paths throughout.
Shopping. Day-to-day shopping is a short drive away in nearby west-end communities, and West Edmonton Mall is within easy driving distance.
Commute. Anthony Henday Drive is right at the community's edge, giving quick access across the city and south to Edmonton International Airport. Downtown is roughly a 20 to 25 minute drive outside rush hour. Check ETS trip planning for current transit routes.
Is Cameron Heights a Good Fit for You?
Cameron Heights tends to work well if you want:
- Ravine and river valley trails just outside your door
- A quiet street with almost no through traffic
- A newer home without moving to the city's edge
- Fast Anthony Henday access for commuting or airport trips
- A walkout or ravine lot, and the budget for one
It may not be the right fit if you want to walk to shops and cafes, need a school within walking distance, or are looking for an entry-level price point.
What I'd Watch Out For
Every community has trade-offs. Here's what I'd look at closely before buying in Cameron Heights:
- One main way in and out. Cameron Heights Drive is the primary access road. That keeps the area quiet, but it also means every trip starts on the same route.
- Lots near the ravine. Ravine and walkout lots are the most sought after, but sloped ground deserves a closer look. Ask about grading, drainage, retaining walls and any restrictions on the lot before you commit.
- Noise near the Henday. Homes on the south side, closest to Anthony Henday Drive, can hear more traffic noise. Visit at rush hour, not just on a quiet weekend.
- No school in the community. Plan for drives or buses to school, and confirm the designated schools for the specific address.
- Lot position drives value. Two similar homes can be priced very differently based on what's behind them. Pay for the lot you want, and don't let a ravine view justify a home that doesn't fit your needs.
