Is Dechene a Good Fit for You?
Dechene tends to work well if you want:
- A detached home on a quiet, established street
- A junior high school in the community
- Easy access to west-end shopping
- A settled, established neighbourhood
It may not be the right fit if you want a brand-new home, a condo or ravine views.
What I'd Watch Out For
- Age of major systems. Most homes are several decades old. Ask about the age of the roof, furnace, hot water tank and windows.
- Poly-B plumbing. Polybutylene water lines were used in many Alberta homes built from the late 1970s to the mid-1990s. Ask the seller and have your inspector check.
- School-day traffic. Streets near the school get busy at drop-off and pick-up. Visit at those times if you're looking nearby.
- Shared walls. For duplexes and other attached homes, ask about soundproofing and how shared costs, like the roof, are handled.
