Living in Glastonbury, Edmonton
A Well-Rounded West End Community
Glastonbury is an established west Edmonton community in The Grange area, bounded by Whitemud Drive to the north, Anthony Henday Drive to the east and 62 Avenue to the south.
It was built from the late 1990s on, so homes are past the new-build stage but still relatively modern. With quick access to two major freeways and its own community league, it's a practical choice for commuters.
Homes and Prices in Glastonbury
Glastonbury has a real mix of housing. Most homes are detached, with duplexes, row houses and some condos in the mix.
That mix gives buyers several price points in one community. Condos and townhomes are the entry point, duplexes come next, and larger detached homes are at the top. For current prices, see my monthly Edmonton market update or browse the live listings below.
Schools, Parks, Shopping and Commute
Schools. Check the Edmonton Public Schools and Edmonton Catholic Schools locators for the designated schools for the address you're considering.
Community. The community is served by the Glastonbury Community League.
Shopping. Shopping and services along Whitemud Drive and in the Lessard area are close, and West Edmonton Mall is a short drive.
Commute. Whitemud Drive and Anthony Henday Drive are both on the community's edge. Whitemud gives a direct route east to the University of Alberta and Southgate. Drive times downtown vary a lot with traffic, so test your commute at rush hour. Check ETS trip planning for current transit routes.
Is Glastonbury a Good Fit for You?
Glastonbury tends to work well if you want:
- Fast access to both Whitemud Drive and the Henday
- A choice of condos, duplexes and detached homes
- A settled community that's still relatively modern
- A community league of its own
It may not be the right fit if you want large lots, ravine views or a brand-new home.
What I'd Watch Out For
- Freeway noise. Homes along Whitemud Drive and Anthony Henday Drive can hear steady traffic. Visit at rush hour.
- 25-plus-year-old systems. Older homes here may be due for a roof, furnace or hot water tank. Ask for ages and receipts.
- Condo and townhome documents. Review the reserve fund study, fees and any special assessments before you commit.
- Duplex shared walls. Ask about soundproofing and the condition of shared roofs or walls with the neighbour.
- Rush-hour exits. Check how quickly you can get onto Whitemud or the Henday from the home's street at peak times.
